Dear Members,

As you know, Essential Skills Ontario’s Annual General Meeting was held on October 21, 2013 to vote on proposed by-law changes. The proposed changes to the organization’s by-laws were intended to move us from the current structure of a membership model that is open to any individual or organization, to one where the members of the organization will consist of the directors of the organization. This move was made in light of upcoming changes to Ontario’s Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA), as well as a sharp decline in the number of members over the past few years. This vote was voted upon and approved, meaning that the membership has now changed.

You can still receive, however, most of the benefits of association with Essential Skills Ontario (with the exception of voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting), without the financial burden of paying for membership. Because of your long-standing interest, Essential Skills Ontario has automatically added your membership email to our subscriber list so you can continue to receive updates and information on our work.

Our subscriber model also includes our online platforms (our website, social media and webinars), conferences and town halls. Information from our multitude of stakeholders has always been valued and our staff will continue to talk to, visit and meet with our partners and stakeholders in order to share information, resources, research and updates on literacy and essential skills.
