Second of PIAAC Essential Skills Bulletins Now Available for Download

The second issue of our 2013 Essential Skills Bulletin Series is now available for free download on the Essential Skills Ontario website. PIAAC: Problem Solving in Technology-Rich Environments and the Survey of Skills Used at Work is the second of two bulletins that cover the highly anticipated international survey of adult literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills. PIAAC – the results of which will be released in October 2013 – is the most comprehensive international survey of adult skills ever undertaken: 26 countries participated, including over 25,000 adults in Canada alone.

The latest bulletin:
• Explores two new elements in the OECD PIAAC survey: Problem Solving in Technology-Rich Environments (PS-TRE) and the Survey of Skills Used at Work
• Investigates how Problem Solving in Technology-Rich Environments (PS-TRE) is designed to expand our understanding of the depth and complexity of cognitive skills used to solve problems in technology-rich environments
• Investigates how the Survey of Skills Used at Work component utilizes a Job Requirements Approach (JRA) methodology to analyze how generic skills are used in the workforce
• Explores what PS-TRE and JRA mean for both Ontario and Literacy and Basic Skills Programs
